Aberdeen City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to contribute to its Environmental Policy team who have responsibility for a wide range of sustainability and environment policy matters (see Job Profile).   

The post holder will assist in developing, directing and coordinating a portfolio of sustainability work, including providing day to day supervision and mentoring for the Sustainability Officers. The range of sustainability work evolves over time and is currently focused on: climate change mitigation, risk and adaptation; sustainable energy; ethical trade; community food growing; impact assessment; and awareness raising. 

 The post holder will also be required to be involved in the wider remit of the team and organisation. Opportunities will be driven by a mix of organisational requirements and the skills and experience of the successful candidate.  

Enthusiasm for and qualifications / experience in sustainable development and environmental management are essential. Understanding of and competence in other areas of the team’s remit, and / or willingness to work towards those, would be an advantage.

 The post holder will be required to engage and work in collaborative partnership across the Council, with statutory and non-statutory groups and organisations and the citizens of Aberdeen. The job is predominantly office-based, with visits within the city and occasional travel further afield. Flexible working options are available.
