Policy Officer

Job Opportunity: Policy Officer (one-year fixed term contract)

March 2018

The Aldersgate Group (www.aldersgategroup.org.uk) is an alliance of leaders from business, politics and civil society that drives action for a sustainable and competitive economy. Our members include some of the largest businesses in the UK from a wide range of economic sectors with a collective global turnover of over £400bn. Other members include leading NGOs, professional institutes, public sector bodies, trade bodies and politicians from across the political spectrum.

We are politically impartial and champion the important role of the business sector in moving the UK towards a low carbon economy that is both energy and resource efficient.

This is an exciting time for the Aldersgate Group. We began the year with seven new members and two major new pieces of work on green finance and UK industrial electricity prices. In 2018 we will be prioritising policy work on how to deliver the UK’s Clean Growth Strategy and meet the UK’s legally binding carbon budgets, increase resource efficiency and improve the state of the UK’s natural environment under the 25 Year Environment Plan, whilst engaging with key policy developments in the EU.

Within the last six months, our public and private events have fielded high profile speakers from business, politics and academia, including BEIS Minister of State, Claire Perry, Defra Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Thérèse Coffey, European Commission Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, Jyrki Katainen, Chair of the Environment Agency, Emma Howard Boyd, Deputy Mayor of London, Shirley Rodrigues, Professor Michael Grubb of UCL and senior directors / representatives for British Land, BuroHappold, CEMEX, Kingfisher, Siemens, SUEZ and Vattenfall.

With significant policy development opportunities ahead in implementing the Clean Growth Strategy, Industrial Strategy and 25 Year Environment Plan, influencing resource efficiency policy in the UK and EU and developing our green finance policy proposals, we are creating a new position for a Policy Officer who will report to the Acting Policy Manager (covering a maternity leave) and bolster the capacity for the Aldersgate Group to make the case for key policy proposals.
