I'm currently working with a forward-thinking environmental consultancy that's looking to strengthen its Ecology & Biodiversity team with the addition of a Principal Consultant or Associate Director. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ecologist who’s ready to take on a strategic leadership role while continuing to make a real-world impact on projects across Scotland.

This organisation takes pride in delivering pragmatic, client-focused advice that balances commercial priorities with meaningful benefits to biodiversity. If you’re looking for a role where your leadership and technical skills will be truly valued, this could be the right fit.

Location: Flexible, with the ability to attend the Grangemouth office at least once a week.

Qualifications:

·        A BSc and/or MSc in Ecology or a related field

·        Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM)

Essential Experience & Skills:

·        Proven experience in line management or leading technical teams

·        Confident reviewing tenders, fee proposals, and technical reports

·        Strong client communication skills – particularly explaining complex ecological issues in plain language

·        A sound understanding of the Scottish planning system

·        Experience managing budgets and contributing to project success

·        Ability to build client relationships through reliability and delivery

·        A natural mentor who enjoys supporting junior team members

Desirable (but not essential):

·        Holders of protected species licences (e.g., bats, badger, otter, great crested newt, Schedule 1 birds)

·        Ornithological survey and mitigation experience

·        Experience liaising with statutory stakeholders (e.g., NatureScot, SEPA, local planning authorities)

·        A creative mindset for solving novel ecological challenges

What’s on offer:

Alongside a competitive salary package based on experience, this role comes with a suite of attractive benefits including:

·        Professional membership subscriptions covered

·        Bespoke internal and external training and CPD

·        33 days holiday (including public holidays) with options to buy or sell days

·        Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support

·        Volunteer day allowance for a cause you care about

·        Flexible parental leave options

·        Cycle to work and electric vehicle schemes

·        Employee referral incentives
