With the recent acquisition of E3Modelling we have an exciting opportunity to join our team in Athens.
Role purpose
Do you have solid technical skills and a strong interest in European and international energy policy, with a special focus on energy efficiency?
We seek self-driven, motivated modellers to join our EU offices in Athens, Madrid, or Berlin and work alongside our energy system modelling team on high-standing consulting projects for international organisations, national governments, and the private sector.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will perform quantitative research to support various activities of the energy system models PRIMES. More specifically, you will:
* Collect, structure, keep up-to-date and analyse large datasets relevant to energy, economy and buildings energy demand sectors.
* Operate, maintain and further develop the PRIMES model and other simulation tools for the buildings sectors.
* Analyse model outputs and draft policy analysis reports.
Key competencies and experience
* Hold a BSc and/or MSc or PhD degree in engineering, economics, applied mathematics/physics or any relevant disciplines.
* Have proven experience in research and/or work experience on energy systems modelling, operations research, mathematical programming, and optimisation modelling, especially focusing on energy efficiency and decarbonisation pathways for the energy demand sectors (buildings, agriculture, energy-intensive industries).
* Utilise quantitative modelling skills with experience in developing models and scenarios ideally related to the decarbonisation of the energy demand sectors.
* Demonstrate the ability to use analytical and modelling tools, preferably GAMS, Python or R for modelling.
* Be an excellent user of MS Office with particular emphasis on MS Excel.
* Be proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
* Have an interest in energy system analysis and energy economics.
* Have an understanding of European and/or international energy and environmental policy issues.
* Have an analytical and problem-solving mindset, a collaborative attitude, and an eagerness to learn.
* Proven writing skills gained through (co-) authorship of academic articles, technical and/or policy reports in English is an asset.
