Based at Green Lane, Walsall

South Staffs Water supplies high quality drinking water to approximately 1.3m people and approximately 35,000 commercial customers over 1,500 square km in the West Midlands, South Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, North Warwickshire and North Worcestershire areas. General maintenance plays an important part in supporting the infrastructure at our site.

Role Outline

This a varied role operating from our main site at Green Lane, Walsall and involves work both indoors and outdoors.

With responsibility for maintaining the grounds this will include, but not limited to hedge trimming, sourcing and ordering bedding plants for various locations such as Green Lane, Training Centre, Lichfield, Estates Office/Angling Office at Blithfield Reservoir, etc.  Maintain the grounds and site car parks using a road sweeper, treating footpaths/pedestrian crossings/roads with salt during poor weather conditions and installation of road, safety and information signs. You will ensure that all stocks required to undertake the site maintenance tasks are monitored and re-ordered as required. There will be a requirement to assist with any other maintenance tasks as requested.

Being responsible for the fuel area at Green Lane, you will ensure delivery of fuel is managed safely and that suitable safety measures are taken during delivery. Day to day management will include monitoring levels, re-ordering, recording monthly fuel dips, and preventing contamination of fuel by pumping water from fuel chambers. 

Indoor maintenance task will include, although not limited to, such things as repairing broken items, lock fittings, adjusting/replacing door closers, building of office furniture, assisting in office moves and subsequent dismantling/reassembling of furniture plus  other ’DIY’ type tasks across site. 

Who we are looking for

As a role with varied tasks you will be self-motivated with the ability to work on your own initiative. You will ideally have experience of operating a fork lift truck, have basic hands on skills and some knowledge of gardening. An understanding of mechanical engineering would be an advantage in this role, however not essential. You will hold a current valid UK driving licence as an essential part of this role will involving visiting sites, collecting items, etc.
