Climate change is fast becoming one of the greatest risks to operators across the global build environment. At Arup we work collaboratively across disciplines and geographies to ensure our clients are getting cutting edge advice, which begins from the need to integrate sustainable development into the heart of all we do, to deliver the broadest range of positive outcomes possible - delivering impact at scale.

We have recently committed to conducting whole lifecycle carbon assessments on all buildings we work on, and will withdraw from fossil fuel projects in April 2022. 

As part of our drive to shape a better world, we are looking to grow our Climate & Sustainability offering, and have a range of opportunities available for Climate Change Consultants, of all grades, across the UK. 

About you: 

We are looking for motivated and ambitious professionals toward the start of their career journey who are committed to shaping a sustainable future. You’ll be a strong communicator and team player, with excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ideally, you will have some prior experience in the field of climate change consultancy.  

The Role(s): 

We are looking for candidates to join our teams based in offices around the UK, to support our growing portfolio of projects in the infrastructure, buildings and advisory sectors. At its core, your role will help to deliver low carbon, climate-resilient and circular outcomes into the projects we deliver. Some of the projects/skills you may have experience or an interest in may include: 

• Climate change impact and risk assessments; 
• Climate change resilience assessments and advisory; 
• Climate change and Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessments  
• Climate change strategy and policy advisory; 
• Climate financing advisory or cost benefit assessments; 
• Circular economy strategy; 
• Environmental Impact Assessments; 

As a Climate Change Consultant, you will work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary group of specialists and project managers around the UK and beyond. You will have some previous experience in the field of environment and sustainability or can demonstrate that you are knowledgeable on the topic. The collaborative nature of the role requires strong interpersonal skills to work well with others. A recognition of the socio-economic issues that pervade our work is also desirable, in order to help us deliver a just transition through all of our projects. 

Skills & Qualifications 

Some of the skills and qualifications you might be expected to have are listed below, dependent on your grade. If you don’t tick all of these boxes don’t worry, we’d still love to hear from you. 

• Bachelor or Masters qualification in a relevant field, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Climate Change or Sustainability (or equivalent experience).  
• Working towards chartership in an appropriate institution. 
• Some previous experience in consultancy work and knowledge of carbon planning and/or footprinting tools. 
• Some previous experience or knowledge of climate hazards and risks assessments and potential adaptation and resilience solutions. 
• An awareness of the EIA process.  
• Knowledge of relevant UK policy.
