About Us

We’re looking for an Arboriculturist (consultant or senior consultant level) with a passion for the environment to join our growing Arboricultural team.

Middlemarch Environmental is an award-winning natural environment consultancy that has recently embarked on an exciting period of strategic growth. Headquartered in Coventry and with regional teams across the UK, Middlemarch provides nationwide ecological, arboricultural and biodiversity services, as well as supporting clients with innovative landscape design and nature-based solutions.

Middlemarch has a bold ambition to be the environment consultancy of choice, offering trusted advice that helps to create an enduring natural environment legacy.

Many challenges can arise at the interface of nature and human development. Middlemarch provides expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients to address these challenges and ensure that the value in nature is fully understood, preserved and, wherever possible, enhanced.

Established in 1989, Middlemarch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. Collectively, the Wildlife Trusts are the largest voluntary nature and conservation organisation in the UK with over 850,000 members and 35,000 volunteers working to improve nature.

The Role

Over the last 10 years, the company’s arboricultural practice has developed a strong reputation and proven track record as a leader in the field.

As a Middlemarch arboriculturist you’ll work across a wide range of projects and surveys for a variety of clients. No two days are the same and you’ll be busy conducting BS5837 arboricultural surveys, tree hazard assessments, decay detection, woodland management plans, clerk of works, CAVAT and TEMPO assessments, as well as ground penetrating radar survey analysis.

This role requires you to act as a brand ambassador for the business, communicating confidently and clearly with clients, providing sound advice, and ensuring their needs are understood. You’ll also need to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, with an ability to complete dynamic risk assessments in the field.

The role can be based at our HQ in Coventry or home-based in the South East region. You’ll need to travel to sites across the UK and the company has a fleet of brand-new hybrid vehicles for staff to use to make travel more comfortable and to help keep our CO2 footprint down.

Due to the nature of environmental fieldwork you will need to be flexible and, at times, able to work some unsociable hours. Additional hours worked can be claimed as overtime and/or time off in lieu.

Skills and Experience

We’re keen to hear from arboriculturists at all levels, so whether you’re just starting out as a consultant or looking to take the next step in your career to senior level, this could be an opportunity for you.

All we require is that you’re a confident and competent arboriculturist who can demonstrate relevant experience and/or qualifications.

It would be advantageous if applicants could demonstrate a Level 4 or higher qualification in arboriculture or forestry, experience of undertaking tree hazard surveys and surveys in accordance with BS5837:2012, and professional membership of the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters.

Speaking to and advising clients, as well as report and letter writing, will also be a key part of the role so great communication skills and a friendly and engaging manner are essential.

What we offer

As a part of our team, you’ll be offered a competitive salary in line with your experience and skills, the potential for performance related rewards, company pension, and the opportunity for training and continued professional development.

Middlemarch celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
