ABOUT US

The Tees Valley Combined Authority was created in April 2016. Our purpose is to drive economic growth and job creation in the area. We are a partnership of five authorities; Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees, working closely with the Local Enterprise Partnership, wider business community and other partners to make local decisions to support the growth of our economy. Under the devolution deal with Government, we are taking on responsibilities previously held by Westminster and Whitehall; for transport, infrastructure, skills, business investment, housing and culture and tourism. On the 4th May 2017, the people of the Tees Valley elected their first Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, who chairs the Combined Authority.

The Tees Valley is at the forefront of northern economic growth, and a flagship for successful devolution. We have big ambitions for our area, and a partnership between councils, business and other committed partners strengthened over 20 years of collaboration.

The Tees Valley is an area of contrasts. One of the UK’s great industrial regions, we are the cutting edge of business innovation. We are an area with vibrant town centres and beautiful coastline, home to one of Europe’s largest process industry and energy clusters, and one of the UK’s largest ports. But we also face serious economic challenges, with far too many of our residents without the skills and employment opportunities needed to participate effectively in a modern economy.

The creation of a new Combined Authority this year marked a major step forward for our region, building on our excellent partnership with business through our local enterprise partnership. Our Devolution Deal, and the creation of the role of the Tees Valley Mayor in 2017, places us in the best possible position to deliver new funding, powers and responsibilities to invest in our infrastructure and create new jobs; according to priorities set here in the Tees Valley, rather than imposed from Whitehall.

To meet this challenge, we now have a single high-performing and well-motivated team bringing together all our devolved functions and funding responsibilities – amounting to around £½ billion over the next 4 years.

TVCA is committed to providing a fair working environment where all are equally valued and
respected. This is demonstrated throughout our core values detailed below:

- Open
Transparent, honest & receptive

- Collaborative
Working in partnership to make it happen

- Empathetic
Understanding, considerable & perceptive

- Focused
Driven with clarity of purpose

Thank you for your interest in joining us in this ambitious and exciting journey.
